我遇到的大多数学生和职场人士，其实并不是真的想学更多单词或语法规则。他们真正想要的，是随时随地都能开口说话的能力，不再卡壳。

我们从小到大接受的课堂训练——听老师讲课、做填空题、做选择题——并没有错。它建立的是对理论的认识。那就是「输入」，而且它很重要。问题在于学校就停在这里。学校训练的是通过写作考试，而不是在真实世界里开口说话。

光有输入是不够的。你还需要「输出」——几乎在念头一出现的瞬间，就能造出句子的能力。到了那个当下，你不能再一边说一边在脑子里现找该用哪条语法规则——那正是让人卡住的原因。输出训练的目标，是透过大量练习，把足够正确的语法和句型内化进你身体里，让你到了要开口的那一刻，不需要想，直接说。这就像开车，你能开车回家，不需要一边开一边在脑子里想引擎运作的理论。

说句实话——在用中文思考了二三十年之后，没有人能在十堂课之后就变成「纯用英语思考的人」。这不现实，我也不会假装可以做到。那些说起英语来像母语者的中文使用者，实际情况是：他们脑子里往往还是先用中文想一遍。差别不在于他们把中文从脑子里「删除」了，而在于他们建立了一套「过滤器」。中文的念头经过这套过滤器，出来的另一端，就是一句符合英语逻辑（而不是中文逻辑）的句子。而这套过滤器，正是我在每一位学生身上建立的东西。不是「别再用中文想」，而是「让你的中文念头，经过一套系统，转换成正确、自然的英语」。

想象一把 1 到 10 的量尺。1 是死板——纠结每一条语法规则，不敢开口。10 是彻底的自由——说得太随意、太随机，以至于结构完全消失。两个极端都行不通。目标是落在 6 到 7 之间：说得自然、不纠结，但底下依然带着相对准确的语法、句子结构和逻辑。

Most students and working professionals I meet don't actually want to know more vocabulary or more grammar rules. What they really want is the ability to speak — anytime, anywhere, without freezing.

The classroom training we all went through — listening to teachers, fill-in-the-blanks, MCQs — wasn't wrong. It built awareness of the theory. That's Input, and it matters. The problem is schools stop there. They train students to pass writing exams, not to speak in the real world.

Input alone isn't enough. You also need Output — the ability to produce a sentence almost the instant a thought forms. At that point, you can't be consciously searching for which grammar rule to apply — that's exactly what makes people freeze. The goal of output training is to get enough of the right grammar and sentence structures into you through practice, so that when it's time to speak, you don't have to think — you just speak. It's like driving. You can get yourself home without consciously running through the theory of how a car works.

Let's be honest — after 20, 30 years of thinking in Chinese, no one becomes a "pure English thinker" after ten lessons. That's not realistic, and I don't pretend it is. Here's what actually happens with Chinese speakers who sound like native English speakers: they're often still forming a thought in Chinese first. The difference isn't that they've eliminated Chinese from their head — it's that they've built a filter. The Chinese thought passes through this filter, and what comes out the other side is a sentence shaped by English logic, not Chinese logic. That filter is exactly what I'm building with my students. Not "stop thinking in Chinese" — but "let your Chinese thought pass through a system that turns it into correct, natural English."

Picture a scale from 1 to 10. 1 is rigid — overthinking every grammar rule, unable to speak without hesitating. 10 is total freedom — speaking so loosely and randomly that structure disappears entirely. Neither end works. The goal is to land around 6–7: speaking freely, without overthinking, while still carrying relatively accurate grammar, sentence structure, and logic underneath it.
